Are you suffering from headaches? Many people do, and there is a lot of advice and help out there for people with headaches. Going to a Chiropractor is a great idea. Chiropractic care has helped millions of people over the years. This blog really isn’t about what a Chiropractor can do to help you though. It is more about what you can do for yourself. So let’s not waste your time and get to it.
You need to identify what triggers your headaches. These can be as simple as stress, insomnia, loud noise, bright lights, certain foods, even blood sugar changes. So my first suggestion is to avoid any triggers. That may not be as simple as it sounds for many though.Often your work area or the lighting or noise there is just what it is and you may not be able to change many of these factors.
Do your best to make your work area as ergonomic as you can. If you spend a lot of time in one position during the day you need to get up and down move every thirty minutes. Change your work station every few weeks, even a subtle change helps.
Obviously if food is one of your triggers you need to avoid any food that aggravates your headaches. Soda and caffeine can trigger headache. However, you will find that there are people that find relief from a migraine headache when they drink soda. So maybe try a Coke one time, if it helps that is awesome for you.
Don’t clinch your teeth. Yes clenching your teeth will trigger a headache. The temporomandibular joint or TMJ will get inflamed if you clench your teeth often and this will cause headaches. If you suffer from TMJ try using ice on the TMJ and doing some simple TMJ exercises, you can find these on You Tube.
Other home tips for headache suffers are as simple as getting 8 hours of sleep a day. Sleep takes practice if you suffer from insomnia. Get your sleep area as dark as you can, if you like noise make it loud if you prefer quite make it quite. I like a fan that makes as much noise as possible.
Exercise is good for your neck in most cases. This web page has several videos that may help your headache if your headache is caused by tension in your neck.
Now if you are having the worst headache of your life, I mean a ten out of ten go to the ER ASAP. If you are slurring your speech, dizzy, nauseous, or losing feeling or strength in an arm go to the ER ASAP.
This is just part one, we will give you another dose of help in our next blog.
