Dental hygiene and Chiropractic;
I know you must be asking what these two have to do with each other.
The answer is a lot. No, I don’t think that a chiropractor can adjust your teeth. What we can do is advise you to follow the American Dental Association’s protocols and brush and floss your teeth regularly. Recent studies have proven that people who brush their teeth and floss daily not only have better dental hygiene, but they are less susceptible to heart disease and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and pneumonia.
Patients are looking for tips to help them gain a healthier lifestyle and live longer lives. This seems to be a simple one. Take in to account it is a very inexpensive home treatment makes it even more attractive. At the very least it may save you thousands of dollars in future dental bills.
So where does Chiropractic care come in? I guess the answer for me is personal. I have had horrible sinuses for many years coupled with terrible allergies. I have tried all the home remedies, Neti -Pots, herbs you name it. Truth is none were much help for me. So I began a regimen of over the counter antihistamines daily. I also go to a great ears nose and throat Dr. very often. On occasion I use steam; this opens my sinuses up better than a Neti-Pot. So to get to the point, my allergies and sinus problems are doing great; the side effect of this is I can smell now. I mean I can smell, I haven’t been able to smell for years.
This new sense of smell has brought to my attention that there are a lot of people out there with bad breath. After a long conversation with a patient of mine (a dentist); he informed me the major cause of this in our area is periodontal disease.
So I started discussing dental health with patients. I gave them general advice, nudged them to see their dentist, brush, floss etc. This has been going on for a few months and I am starting to see a difference in some of my patients’ lives. One wife gave me a call and thanked me for what she stated she had been trying to get her husband to do for years, go see the dentist and get things fixed. She exclaimed his teeth looked better and his bad breath was gone, his dentist did a series of deep cleanings and prescribed an antibiotic mouth wash for three months. His periodontal disease is improving.
So if you are looking for effective ways to improve your health that are fast and inexpensive. Take a closer look at your dental hygiene. I understand fully that Chiropractic has its place in getting people healthy unfortunately this is done predominately with the once a month adjustment and overpriced vitamins and or the magic foot baths. Chiropractor’s often call this wellness which obviously I have a problem with. Wellness to me is diet, exercise, healthy lifestyles and great nutrition.
If you are suffering from back or neck pain, look for an experienced URAC board certified Chiropractor in your area.
